How we can help
Main and existing switchboard replacements, modiffications and upgrades
Own a house that was built before 1980? It’s time to consider upgrading your switchboard.
Switchboards
Replacement of Switchboards:
This is a must-do in any old building. Ensuring the electrical safety of your home for you and/or your occupants is extremely important. We want to make sure they are all well-protected in the event of an electrical fault.
Well and Safe Function of the Main Switchboard:
Ensuring that the main switchboard functions under faulty conditions and trips the circuit within time and safely is a requirement of safe operation.
Loose or over tightened electrical connections may cause a heat build-up with a combination of old electrical wiring. This means that the electrical cabling will slowly degrade over time, causing overheating and then leading to carbonisation and potential fire.
Other issues such as Vermin, can chew through your electrical cables in the places that the eye can often miss. This could result in electrocution when coming into contact with these dangerous wires. Once they have eaten through most of this, they move away, which then could become a fire hazard if the circuit stays live.
OME recommends using ‘Arc Fault Detection Devices’ when upgrading main switchboards to give you the most protection when a fault situation arises.
Please note: Older main switchboards that have the symptoms of copper sulphide (green goo) could be an electrocution hazard. An electrician must visually check this out as underlying issues may be present behind the board/switchboards and should be attended to urgently. It will need general maintenance, repairing or cleaning to prevent any future problems from occurring.
Residential Lighting Plans, Repairs and Replacements
Lights got you in a pickle? Changed the lamp and it still doesn’t work. Lightbulb keeps on blowing? Not feeling the mood is right in the room?
Lighting
Lighting in a room has a huge affect on the human function of the mind. It not only enhances our mood but can also impact positively on our creativity and cognitive performance. So it is vital to incorporate not only natural lighting in your room but electrical lighting as well. Having the right balance between the two is essential to sustained well-being.
There are many different types of electrical lighting for every kind of mood. Warm lighting is great for creating a cozy, relaxing atmosphere, one where you can socialise with other people and are apt to think more creatively. Cool lighting can be great for situations when we need to feel more alert, active and focus on the important task ahead. Dimmer lighting is used to set mood for things like self relaxation and casual socialisation as opposed to brighter, more intense lighting. .
Design needs to support the variety of different lighting options to match each need and set the tone for any mood or occasion.
Lighting with OME can get your mood boosted by helping you with a full lighting design and installation to suit your needs. We can also repair and replace any damages to lights in and around your home or commercial building.
Certified Electrical Designs and Electrical Plans
A Certified Electrical Design gives you the assurance that your installation has been properly specified, and complies with Safety Regulations, with no wriggle-room for unwanted adjustments.
Electrical Designs and Plans
What is this?
A certified design provides accountability and obligations on the designer. It also gives the installer or electrical contractor doing the work a document to mount a defence if things don’t go as planned. This is a complete design package in its own right. There is no discretion for an electrical installer or inspector to alter and modify the certified design, any alterations made must be completed by the designer and signed off . If this were to occur they would require variations and approvals to be granted before commencement of electrical work.
What constitutes a certified design?
A certified design will identify the location of the installation and use any applicable standards used for the design where required. This must be signed and dated by the person who completed the design and/or is responsible for the design. This is then passed on to the installer who, acting in good faith, installs the equipment prescribed.
The installer will install the equipment prescribed from the certified design, test it and then certify the installation. Once this is completed they will then have it inspected where required, connect the installation pin accordance to align with the documents, specifications and requirements.
Knowing who is responsible for each step of this process gives you the reassurance that you need when providing you with a certified design using our software. OME can assure you that each design will be suitable for your required needs and agreeing to this design provides the ground plan for getting the job done right the first time.
OME use Auto Cad Electrical or Ground Plan and the Designer Certifies the design in accordance with New Zealand Electricity Safety Regulations 58 and New Zealand Electricity Safety Regulation 14.

Supply of consumer mains cables and services from road to house
Electrical projects need to be managed properly to make sure the job is done right and to all the required safety requirements.
Supply of consumer mains cables and services from road to house
Power is supplied from the road side to the house and is underground in most installations. Some older installations are supplied from the air via power poles. New builds such as houses, blocks of flats and apartments, are generally built on existing sites and may require mains (power cable) upgrades to supply the capacity required.
Electrical calculations is a necessity to help ensure capacity will meet the maximum demand of the power required. If not done correctly, this could be a costly exercise to redo and/or restrict the amount of power that may be consumed. Using a certified design will ensure the design meets the requirements before the work is commenced and the cables are buried/placed in the ground.
Types of Mains cable installations for Domestic;
1. Suspended from the air power poles,
2. Buried Direct, Buried in sectional conduit
3. Pulled through conduit after using horizontal directional drilling
Before digging commences, its important to locate all underground services, existing power, water, waste water, and telecommunications. Completing a survey of this will save time and money ensuring that no disruption to other peoples services may occur.
OME installations of mains cables and other services will come with the required documentation to ensure you will not fall short on your power requirements. You will also have no disruptions to other electrical services in your home or commercial building.
Home Automation, Audio Visual Installations, Data Cabling and Integration
Your home is precious to you and at OME we want to make sure that your home systems work in the way you want them to.
Home Automation, Audio Visual Installations, Data Cabling and Integration
When it’s your home we’re talking about, planning a job for you starts with four questions. By doing this, it will help avoid a mine field of technological questions as the process evolves. Having these questions answered at the planning stage will help OME know the recommended tools to achieve your expected setting and prohibit a prolonged job.
Questions to be asked:
1. Who lives here and how long do you intended on living here for?
2. What is your budget? We’ll look at expectation vs reality
3. What do devices do you want to control? Well look at want vs need
4. What is the motive behind the project?
Technological updates to security on software will make devices obsolete over a period of time. Legacy software may not function with newer peripheral equipment. Identifying the brands of equipment for interoperability is essential for bringing your project to life. Technology is constantly evolving and you can trust that OME will recommend the correct technology required to future proof your system for most technological purposes.
Formulation of a concise plan requires a four fold approach. Investigation, planning, implementation and acceptance. Identifying what needs to be controlled is a key factor in a successful implementation. Investigation and identify all the peripheral equipment like sensors for bells smart locks, heating, cooling, electric gates and the list goes on. Interoperability between devices will need to be considered and the operating system will be required to control all of these peripheral devices.

Kitchen and Bathroom Renovations prewire, appliance installation and fit off
Planning the to renovate your Kitchen or Bathroom?
Kitchens are a place where families make some of their fondest memories. Whether that be dining together, games at the table or making creations, the kitchen is the heart of the family home.
Bathrooms are a place to feel relaxed, have some privacy and where we spend most of our time on our personal grooming. So it is important that your bathroom is healthy, have the correct lighting and exhaust extraction. This will prevent damp bathrooms, mould build up on the ceiling and saturated windows. Heated towel rails on a timer is also a good way to help prevent this from happening as it will dry out any damp items including the bathroom itself.
It is cost effective to have timers and motion sensors to turn on and off electrical items. Minimising power consumption will save you money over a period of time. These savings add up and over time, the pay back for these installed items is roughly about three years.
When placing your property on the market, one of the key factors for increasing the value of your property is the kitchen and bathroom. As a company, we know how important it is to have these rooms up to the best possible standard and we can help you sort all of your electrical needs.
Planning is vital to ensure that the all electrical components such as lighting design, electrical cables, power points, light switches and fittings, heating and extraction fans are going to be placed in the correct position. Using human ergonomics by reaching out and moving helps to determine the correct positioning of these items to prevent an injury and keep harmony within your space.
Roughly drawn kitchen and bathroom floor plans can be sketched up on a napkin at your local coffee shop by yours truly, but a more detailed plan will be required to be produced and certified for commenced drawings and plans.
Enabling a good ergonomic design is where it really matters. You want to make sure you get the best design that fits you and your needs. Positioning of lighting and light switches can change the mood and feel of the room dramatically. Once your ideal plan is ready to go, we can work alongside your chosen designer and ensure that the job agreed to, is a job completed done well and to your satisfaction.
When it comes to designers and providers, we are more than happy help you out here as well. OME has, and deals with a wide variety of tradespeople and would be more than happy to recommend you a good match for your project.
What’s hidden behind the jib in your existing kitchen or bathroom will determine the cost involved in job completion. There could be extra costs involved due to unforeseen circumstances. This is not every case, but in some instances the current standards may need to be applied that you can’t see that will lay the foundation of your new kitchen or bathroom. Expectations and reality will need to be identified so we’re all on the same page and will ensure that you are well aware of this before we commence any extra required work.
When renovating a kitchen or bathroom, wet areas defined in the Australian and New Zealand Standards, (3000:2007 / 3000:2018) we may also need to make alterations to the main switchboard and/or power-points. This is to ensure that the electrical supply in wet ares is compliant with current electrical standards. Protecting the user from electrocution from use of permanently installed residual current devices in wet areas is significantly hazardous which is why these standards must be adhered to.
New Zealand Healthy Homes requirements have been identified by Tenancy Services New Zealand that kitchen and bathrooms must have extractor fans. Use of their calculators to ensure it is fit for purpose is essential to pass the legal standards in New Zealand.
Renovations can bring expected as well as unexpected challenges. We should always prepare for these challenges as the project cannot be completed without solving them.
These challenges could include:
Experience in project management
Budget
Timeline
Materials
Tradesmen
Human Error
Current laws / Bylaws
Regulations
Standards
Unaware of other underlying problems with the renovation
Whilst working alongside your chosen provider, we will advise and plan with them as to what electrical works need to be completed before installation. At the end of the installation, we will come back to install these appliances and fit off power points, lights and switches to complete the final touches on your project.
